Tropical Storm warning discontinued for O'ahu; storm-related hazards remain

HONOLULU – The National Weather Service has discontinued the Tropical Storm Warning for Oʻahu effective 2 p.m. Sunday as Tropical Storm Lala continues to move away from the island.

While the warning has been lifted, the City and County of Honolulu is urging residents and visitors not to let their guard down. Strong and gusty winds, periods of heavy rainfall, flooding, downed trees and power lines, and hazardous ocean conditions may continue into Sunday afternoon and evening.

“This is certainly good news, but it does not mean that all of the hazards associated with this storm are over,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Our first responders and City crews are still working across Oʻahu, clearing roads, responding to damage and assessing conditions. Please continue to be patient, use caution if you need to travel, and give our crews the space they need to work safely.”

The City’s Emergency Operations Center and Honolulu Police Department Joint Operations Center remain activated as response and recovery operations continue.
Residents should continue to avoid flooded roadways, downed power lines, fallen trees and branches, and dangerous shorelines. Motorists are asked to limit unnecessary travel as crews continue clearing debris and addressing storm-related hazards.

The City’s informational call center remains available at (808) 723-8960 for non-emergency storm-related information. Anyone needing immediate emergency assistance should call 911.

The City will provide its next comprehensive update at 4 p.m. Sunday.
